Hello Everyone,

Welcome to my blog page.

I am absolutely thrilled to have you all reading my story.

I really hope that you will enjoy the time that you spend reading my blog and hopefully you will be able to take something from some or any of my blogs.

Please bear in mind, initially the blogs may be a little heavy, but in order for you to understand how I arrive at this point in my journey, I believe you need to know the story behind this all.

So here goes.

Let’s begin.

I used to think that it was serendipity that led me to the discovery of the exciting, interesting and ever-evolving science of nutrition.

However, on looking back through my life, my experiences and my relationship with food, I see that this is not the case.

So much that has happened in my life up until now has been instrumental  in the ultimate discovery of my need and desire to learn more about food groups and therefore my plate,  the interaction of different foods, our gut health, the interrelationship between food and our mental, emotional and physical well-being and health.

I was certain that I knew all that was necessary for me to be able to lose or maintain my weight. Despite my tempestuous relationship with food from the start of my teen years, I never went on the many diets that came and went over the years. That would have been far too regimented, structured and would have required far too much consistent discipline for my ADHD personality. Oh no, for me it was literally the “Stuff and Starve” route that was my solution for years and years. My binge eating (stuffing for a day) was followed by my liquids (starving for a day, drinking just water and diet coke). This pattern of eating went on intermittently for about 10 years. I was slim for a bit, then I would pick up 15 kilograms or so, then lose it and then pick up weight and be very chunky  for a while and then lose and be slim again, and so this pattern would repeat itself again and again. In retrospect I actually knew very little about food and dieting, and its relationship to our health and wellness.

I have only realised now that I have a Binge Eating Disorder (BED).

The Binge eating Disorder was diagnosed as an actual eating disorder in the DSM-5 which was released by the American Psychiatric Association in 2013.

If I had known in my teens what I know now, I would have sought help immediately.
