Hello there and welcome to my forty-ninth blog.
The word time. We bandy it about so often and in numerous ways, Time is of the essence, Time waits for no man. We kill time, we save time, we rob and get robbed of time, we lose time, and we have all the time in the world. For so many of us, this extraordinary year has given many of us the most incredible family and personal time. For me, this precious family time has been one of the greatest gifts that I have had the privilege to be given subsequent to my boys birth and following my marriage to Rich. For others, time has been their worst enemy. They have had endless time alone, lonely and with no end in sight. There have been families who have been separated for months and still are, not knowing when they will see their loved ones.
So, as we can see, time is actually a multi-faceted concept and although familiar to us all, rather difficult to define and understand. The arts have different definitions of time, but the system of measuring it is quite consistent. Clocks are based on seconds, minutes, and hours. Physicists define time as the progression of events from the past to the present into the future. Time is not something we can see, taste or touch but we can measure its passage.
Let us now take a look at the importance of using the time that we have to live our best life. I have spoken about time quite often in previous blogs, but this has a different slant to the concept of time.
If we really think about this deeply, we begin to realize that, in actual fact, time is all we have. This moment, right now, and we cannot ever get this time back once it has gone. However, when we use it properly and do not lose it, we can attain all that our hearts desire. If we neglect it and let it pass us by, we will be left with very little. When we wake up every morning, we are living minutes and seconds that we will never get back. We are breathing air we will never breathe again, and we are seeing beautiful blue skies and hearing the music of birds singing that we will never see or hear again in exactly the same way. We must embrace this gift and we need to make the most of every opportunity This is the most perfect moment and the moment is right now, not in a week, not next year, not after Covid has gone, and definitely, not in a few years time when your children are all grown up and you can rest and relax and enjoy the fruits of your labour. Make the most of right now.
So many of us think that we need to look to the future for our happiness and fulfilment, because it is somehow going to mean more than the present, and that we will save the best in life for some other time. I will be totally happy and content when we have a cure for Covid when my boys have all graduated and are working when we can travel again. This may all be true, but we can also make the most of this very moment and go out and be the best version of ourselves and have the best life that we can. Granted there will be times that we cannot do this, and we will be sad and unmotivated, and we will just want to waste time and revel in it. However, these too will pass and then we can get on with living majestically.
We also should be working hard, absolutely. Success comes from effort, hard work, dedication, persistence but the key is to allocate our precious time to work towards the things that make us feel like today is the best day ever, that right now is so flipping amazing that we do not want it to end. Today is when we take the first step towards becoming the awesome person we want to be and there is no-one who will ever keep us from that. There is no ceiling, there is no limitation, there is no special requirement, there is you and what you allow yourself to accomplish, you are the holder of the key, you have your finger on the pulse and you can determine your future. It is so easy to make excuses and to blame others for not making the change and utilizing time, but it boils down to us, and only us, to ultimately make the decision. We are where you are because that is where we decided to be, and we have accepted this. If we want to change, we just need to go and do it.
We are so very lucky to be alive on this day, in this age, with access to all the information we could ever dream of and the best technology at our fingertips, freedom to follow any path that looks appealing. Anything we could ever want is right in front of us. Let us embrace it. Living life to the full is the most important thing you can do.
However, in the beginning, it is tough, really tough. Believe me, I have been there. To have the courage to step over the obstacles, to face the challenges, and to be uncomfortable is hard, often very hard. Change is tough and initially, I do not particularly like change. Getting what you want is not easy and takes consistent and constant hard work. You will fall off the proverbial wagon, more than once, I am bruised and bashed all over, I have fallen off so many times, but that is all part of the growth. Once you get through this difficult time, you will understand what truly living is. It can be exciting, scary, and daunting all at once, and at various times. It takes courage but we all can do it.
So, back to the concept of time, one of the greatest gifts a human being has. Do not lose this gift. Use it to your best ability. Remember, the future is not when happiness happens one day, it is a continuation of you living every moment to the fullest from now until you take your last breath. Make every trip around the sun better than the previous, never let a moment of sunshine, clouds or rain deprive you of your gift. Be the best version of yourself that you can be. Live the life you were meant to live. All it takes is a simple decision. Make the decision. It is really worth it. Thanks to Team Fearless for their inspiration for this blog.
